Four men are in custody after they were spotted loading a dead woman into the trunk of their car early Wednesday morning in Queens, police said.
An NYPD spokesperson said the men were seen removing a “large, unknown object” from a multi-family house in Far Rockaway just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday. The suspects placed the item in the back of the truck and drove away, according to police.
They made it about a mile before they were pulled over. During the traffic stop, police said they discovered an unconscious adult woman wrapped in a blanket inside the vehicle’s trunk. Police sources told the NY Post the body showed signs of “severe trauma.”
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS, and the men were taken into custody on charges that are still pending.
A spokesperson for Homeland Security Investigations in New York told NBC NY that the four men were the subjects of an ongoing investigation, but did not provide further details.
“Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) New York, working with the NYPD and our law enforcement partners, made several arrests this morning pursuant to a long-term investigation into certain acts of violence in the Queens, New York area,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “This case is ongoing and there is no further information at this time.”
The investigation remains ongoing. The city medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death.
